FORUM: Rebirth Forum Ubud, Bali 2018 – I Edition – “Sustainability through Differences”. EXHIBITION: The Great Archipelago

FORUM

SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH THE DIFFERENCES

The Sustainability Through Differences Forum is a three-day event that plans to create a platform to join forces between public and private organizations, and institutions that engage in a daily practice of sustainability in different areas, from energy to food, from production to intercultural dialogue, from design to agriculture, from culture to health, etc.

The forum, which will accommodate one hundred people selected for their expertise and activities in the local area, take place at Kayu, Lucie Fontaine’s branch in Bali, at Setiadarma Rumah Topeng dan Wayang in Mas, Ubud. In particular, the guests will be invited to discuss and share their activities carried out in the territory (Indonesia), on ten themes inspired by the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the member states of the United Nations have set out to include in their political agenda in the next fifteen years: the themes emerge from a mapping exercise carried out by the organizers as a preliminary activity.

The titles of the themes of the working table are ten in relation with SDGs’s objectives:

· Environment (Water, Rubbish) (goals 6, 13, 14 e 15,)

· Architecture/Design (goals 9 e 11)

· Education (goal 4)

· Food/Agriculture (goal 2)

· Economics/Production/Art (goals 8, 9 e 12)

· Fashion (goals 8 e 12)

· Tourism (goal 11)

· Energy/Technology (goal 7)

· Communication (goal 17)

· Health (goal 23)

The event aims to raise awareness on the issue of sustainability by creating a network of people active in the area and propose new dynamics to enrich society and place Bali as an example of a sustainable and intercultural country.

The forum doesn’t have a fixed premeditate goal; it will grow up organically during the event in relation with the dialogue of the participants. The art will be the tool for connecting all the guests to find new dynamic ideas and projects.

Venue: Rumah Topeng dan Wayang Setiadarma, Ubud (Bali)

Date: October 29 – 31, 2018

Entitled “The Great Archipelago”, the exhibition is inspired by the work of Michelangelo Pistoletto and reflects on the concept of the table as a domestic object and as a symbol of union.

The collective exhibition is presented by 12 international artists. The exhibition shows 11 tables designed and produced by invited artists, which are Michelangelo Pistoletto, Arahmaiani, Dora Budor, Ashley Bickerton, Marco Cassani, Rafram Chaddad + Rirkrit Tiravanija, Fendry Ekel, Michal Helfman, Rochelle Goldberg, Filippo Sciascia, Entang Wiharso. Out of 11 tables, 10 will host one hundred participating guests, ten for each table, during the three-day event.

The title of the exhibition refers to Michelangelo Pistoletto’s artwork, “Il Grande Arcipelago” (The Great Archipelago). Pistoletto designed specifically a mirrored table for the occasion and it is produced in Indonesia. The table represents the sea that touches Indonesia and it is part of the mirrored table series that Pistoletto made for symbolizing the sea as the melting point of different culture. After the conclusion of the forum all the tables will be exhibited at Kayu, for the duration of the exhibition.
