Harpist, composer, writer

A pioneer of the genre crossover, born in Milan in a musical family, Cecilia has followed a very personal path with harp and voice, which has led her, after an important classical career, to write, play and sing her own music. Studying harp at the Milan Conservatory of Music, at sixteen she start studying music composition with Azio Corghi, become a soloist of contemporary music, working among others with John Cage, at nineteen plays as first harp at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Interpreter of the classical repertoire and with orchestra in major musical institutions, after a brief jazz began to compose her music, reinventing the acoustic harp and becoming the pioneer electric harp. With her music she has performed in the most important Italian and foreign theatres, in Europe, Japan, China, Taiwan, Libya, for the Pope John Paul II and the Dalai Lama. Sensitive to changes generations and Eastern philosophies, in 1997 released the album Anima (Warner) and won the Prix De Sica; then realizes other four albums of her music and collaborates with top pop artists, including Mina, Fabrizio De Andrè, Lucio Dalla. With composer Ludovico Einaudi she realizes the album "Stanze" for electric harp, re-edited and distributed worldwide by Decca in 2014. In 1998 she published the novel “Era dell’amore” (Bompiani), which won, among others, the Premio Rapallo, Elsa Morante and Reggio Calabria Opera Prima.

Her musical is defined "delicious" by Ennio Morricone and "deeply moving and meditative" by singer Sting.

In 2010 she won the international award Profilo Donna, in 2012 the Prize Harpo Marx and Donna Rotary International, in 2014 the Prize Madesimo, in 2016 Premio Lira Battistiana.

Her music has been used in various soundtracks including "Nonhosonno" by Dario Argento.

In 2015 collaborates with Maison de Champagne Krug and Sony Music Entertainment as curator of a playlist inspired by Krug Champagnes and uploaded on Krug App.

In her latest album, "Le mie corde" (Sony Classical) she plays her best songs in acoustic version for harp, with the exception of "Varianti sulla scala enigmantica", an original written by her father, the composer Luciano Chailly, in 1995 and dedicated to her.

She is currently working on the new album and the new novel.
