italian design day 4 11 2020

The Italian Design Day (IDD) is the annual theme-based review launched in 2017 by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration and with the support of the Ministry for Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism. IDD offers an extensive program of promotional events created by the network of Embassies, Consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes and ICE Offices abroad and has established itself over the years as an effective instrument in supporting the promotion of design and the internationalization of a strategic industrial sector for Italian exports. Every year, to mark the occasion, 100 different testimonials become the narrators of Italian design and creativity throughout the rest of the world.

The theme of the 2020 Italian Design Day is “Designing the future. Development, innovation, sustainability and beauty” and it is closely linked to the proactive capacity of Italian design and the extended Made in Italy system to think up ever newer development scenarios, capable of overcoming self-referential rhetoric and keeping the improvement of our lives and the

protection of the planet at the centre of what is on offer. This is an even more topical issue when considered in the context of the health emergency that we are all currently experiencing.

On this occasion the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta are pleased to organize a series of event which consists of 3 seminars. The first one is held on the 2nd of December. As the opening of the webinar series Architect Francesco Lucchese, Ambassador of Design for Indonesia this year, who recently won 2 prestigious awards, Compasso d’oro and a Prestigious Mention during the 26th edition of Compasso d’oro by Italian Design, ADI, will deliver his seminar entitled the Language of Design: Harmony between Product and Context. Together with Lucchese is Leonard Theosabrata, President Director of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives Indonesia, who will also join the webinar as the Indonesian counterpart.

The webinar on the second day will focus on the Jewelry drawing, the future of the sustainable beauty. Mr. Sonny Muchlison, lecturer at Jakarta Institute of Arts, will deliver an introduction to the theme of the webinar, which is “Wearable design, brief Introduction of history and tradition of Italian and Indonesian Jewelry”. In this webinar there are two Italian speakers from Istituto Europeo di Design, named Barbara Brocchi. She is a jewelry designer and also coordinator of Jewelry Design Course in Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Rome and the second one is Viola Naj Oleari, a jewelry designer and ex-student of IED Milan, one of the founders of the Atelier VM, where they created an iconic piece called L’Essenziale. The third speaker is Rinaldy Yunardi, an Indonesian renowned accessory designer. His name becomes well known worldwide when he took out top honors at 2017 World of Wearable Art™ Award. Today, his works are acknowledged widely and can be seen worn by many famous artists all over the world.

The third seminar is an encounter between jewelry designers to have a Dialogue on Sustainability of Future Jewelry. In the webinar will participate two speakers. The first one is Rita Zannoni. She is an Italian jewelry designer of Arte Oro by Danilo Giannoni based in Singapore. After having graduated in Sculpture from Brera Academy in Milan and attended several courses in goldsmith in Milan and Vicenza to refine her skill, she now collaborates with Arte Oro by Danilo Giannoni. The second speaker is Amelia Rachim, an award-winning Indonesian jewelry designer

based in Italy. She gained her Master degree in Jewellery Engineering Master Program from Politecnico di Torino and gained technical experiences in city of gold Valenza and Vicenza. Several years ago she became the youngest winner over 3037 designers from 96 countries on “Design Time” competition, organized by Breil, Italian Watch & Jewellery brand. Since then, her name was recognized in the sector and her creations always give a fresh air into jewellery and luxury industries.
