Giuseppe Catozzella for Ubud Writers & Readers Festival

From humble beginnings in 2002, the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival has evolved into one of the world’s most celebrated literary and artistic events – an annual pilgrimage for lovers of literature and conversation.

Bringing together some of the world’s most powerful voices in a melting pot of artists, authors, thinkers and performers, the Festival is a platform for meaningful exchange and cross-cultural dialogue. A place where artists and audiences alike can discuss shared inspirations, ideas and concerns, the Festival transcends cultural and geographical borders to create a truly global community.

The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute, Jakarta participate in the annual event of Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, with the theme “Jagadhita” (the world we create) by bringing the writer Giuseppe Catozzella. As one of Italy’s most popular contemporary writers Catozzella has published across multiple literary genres, including plays, short stories and novels. His novel Don’t Tell Me You’re Afraid, dealing with the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean Sea, sold more than half a million copies in 40 countries and won the prestigious Premio Strega Giovani.
