On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre and the Second Chance Foundation proudly present a concert by Vinicio Capossela.
Vinicio Capossela, eclectic artist, debuted in 1990 with the album All’una e trentacinque circa under the aegis of Renzo Fantini. The album was launched after he joined the Club Tenco thanks to Francesco Guccini, who noticed his outstanding talent. With this album he won the first of four Targa Tenco. The list of the prizes that he won continues with the Lunezia della Critica, Fernanda Pivano, Piero Ciampi awards, the De André carrier award and the Amnesty Italia award.
Born in Hannover in 1965, Capossela makes his musical career a continuous sway between different genres, from the jazz that characterized his first albums to a more experimental and imaginative repertoire such as the influence of tarantella in Il ballo di San Vito. Capossela often got inspired by classical literature, from Melville to Chaucer, Dante and Homer.
The years of 2015 and 2016 were very important for Vinicio: his new book Il Paese dei Coppoloni (nominated at Premio Strega), the docufilm Nel Paese dei Coppoloni and his new studio album Le Canzoni della Cupa, are the crowning achievement of his 25-years career. Those works are the result of a deep elaboration about Irpinia, the land of his ancestors, which is neglected by history but full of legends, fairy-tales and fabulous music.
Vinicio Capossela (piano, accordion and vocal) will perform with Vincenzo Vasi, a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist on theremin and percussions and Giovannangelo De Gennaro, musician who travels along with his medieval instrument, vielle. During his Asian tour Capossela will take you to an unforgettable journey across Italian and Mediterranean culture.
