On the occasion of the 19th Giornata del Contemporaneo it will be organized a presentation of the 14th project of Kayu Lucie Fontaine: “Baby Blue Quotas”, solo show of Maurizio Vetrugno at the House of Masks and Puppets, Bali, Indonesia.
Michele Bertolino, curator, interviews the artists Maurizio Vetrugno and Marco Cassani in streaming, to investigate the influence of the Asian and Balinese environment in their artistic practices. On this occasion will be presented the ideas behind Cassani’s project Kayu Lucie Fontaine, from which was born ‘Quote Celesti’, Vetrugno’s solo show at the House of Masks and Puppets in Bali. The exhibition ‘Quote Celesti’ (12 Nov-31 Dec 2023) is Vetrugno’s first solo show in Asia after thirty years of travel between Bali, Laos, Thailand and Europe. New works created in collaboration with traditional Balinese mask makers, along with a rug titled ‘Carpet Diem’ handmade in Jakarta, and silk embroidery handmade in Laos will be exhibited. Some traditional masks from the collection of Setia Darma House of Masks and Puppets will also be displayed during the exhibition.
Maurizio Vetrugno, who works and live between Bali and Turin, in his art blends Western and Eastern elements, archaic techniques and objects to originate new meanings and values in a flow of consciousness made of images and words. In Bologna he attended the DAMS and co-founded the Neon Gallery, where his first exhibitions where held. His conceptual artistic research moves freely between paintings and fashion, combining traditional techniques, such as embroidery and batik, with pop, beat and punk tendencies. His interest in music and philosophy lead him to experiment with sophisticated hybrid art forms, such as interactive sound installations and photography.
Marco Cassani, conceptual artist trained as a painter at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, works by questioning social emblems and codes, favoring those linked to political and social power, using his art as ‘catalyst’ to create a new understanding towards building value. Since 2008 works and live in Bali, where he stared the artistic program Kayu-Lucie-Fontaine at the House of Masks and Puppets Setia Darma and Project Etere #1. The project, conceived as an extension of Cassani’s artistic practice, reflect on the concept of art as social and territorial tool starting from the idea of ‘social sculpture’ and investigating the interaction between history and current Indonesian condition and contemporary art practices, facilitating the exchange of new ways of working with artists, of exhibiting art and future views.
