On October 14, at 10.00 a.m., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Farnesina) will host the opening event of the 21st edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World. The festival, put under the High patronage of the President of the Republic, is a yearly worldwide celebration of the Italian language and creativity.
This initiative was born in 2001 in cooperation with the Accademia della Crusca. It is organised during the third week of October by the Embassies, Consulates, and Italian Cultural Institutes, with the support of the Ministry of Culture (MiC), the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), the Government of Switzerland and all of the main partners for the promotion of the Italian language.
The title of the 21st edition, which takes place from 18 to 24 October, is ‘Dante, l’italiano‘. On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante’s passing, the Week of the Italian Language in the World is the conclusion of the ‘Dante 700 nel mondo‘ program, in which the offices of the Italian republic worldwide have celebrated Dante. At the same time, it is also the prelude to the Stati Generali della Lingua e della Creatività Italiane, which will take place on November 29.
